i was able to fit CKY 1,2 3, and 4 ( all about 45-50 minutes long - totaling to 779MB total, i have been using nero 7 to burn everything since i started burning dvds, i used verbatim 4.7gb discs... when i emported these 4 files into nero "create your own dvd" section it said my project was 3.5gb total and would fit all on one disc later i tried to burn a movie that was 630mb, but when i emported it into nero it said it was 4.9gb total and to large for my media discs but that it would fit to a DL media...

my question is, if the 1st projet fits and has a larger file size, how come the smaller file wont fit? (all files are the same media type as well .mpeg)

also if anyone could explain to me how nero fills up the whole 4.7gb disc with 779mb worth of data i would appricate it... i understand it uses space to make the dvd menu & scene selection / etc. as well as convert files to video_ts files but i wouldnt think that should fill up so much space... does any1 know of any programs that are good for squeezing multipule movies onto one disc, via. video decompression like dvdshrink and or uses a better file extension there by reducing the space used when burning to dvd ie ) .dvd .vts or whatever... thanks for your help

    a) this is not poll worthy

    b) Nero is a second rate encoder and authoring tool. It will re-encode, needlessly and usually to a much larger size, DVD compliant material. So even if your .mpeg files are in fact DVD compliant, Nero will ruin them for you.

    c) The basic rule for video compression, regardless of codec used, is

Size = running time X bitrate

So it doesn't matter one little bit how big your file is to start with. Ultimately, it matters how long the total running time for all titles is, and how much space you have to spare. This determines the bitrate at which you encode

    d) Nero is a second rate encoder for DVD authoring

edit : changed a few things after a re-read of the original post.
