Not quite a newbie but haven't done any converting for quite a while!! Anyway, am using TMPGEnc to convert an AVI file to SVCD (want to use SVCD as my HD TV now shows up VCDs!!)

Anyway, seems to convert okay (in the sense that I see what I'm converting in the preview window) But when I play the file back there is no video or sound!! Have tried Windows Media Player, WinAmp and a DVD player - each one plays a black screen with no sound.

Have tried installing the MPEG2 codec and can see it in the environment settings but still no joy.

Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong??

    TIA

Try change the directshow reader priority in tmpgenc, www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc#problems , and reopen the avi and be sure to check that you see the video in file->preview mode. Convert a short clip and see if you get video and audio.

Or are you using tmpgenc xpress?
