Simply drag and drop the AOL icon onto the quick launch bar using any mouse button - You have to drop it between the other icons so a large 'I' will appear where the mouse is hovering over, then let go off the mouse button. If you used the right mouse button select "Create shortcut here", if you used the left mouse button it will do it automatically.
Use the left mouse button first and if that doesnt work try it using the right button - I dont know exactly how ME is programmed to use the mouse buttons.
You can just right click and delete any icon you dont want on it.

The folder name of where the quick launch bar's shortcuts are held is (in window 98 SE):
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
I dont know if it is the same for ME, but it should be. You can just open that folder and add any shortcuts to it that way if the drag and drop method wont work.

Oh, cant help you there then. When you said "quick launch" I thought that you meant the Windows Quick Launch bar.
    =)
Anyway, here is another idea that may work.
Right click on the AOL Icon and select 'Properties'. Select the 'Shortcut' tab at the top of the Properties window, you can then choose a 'Shortcut Key' for launching it with. I dont know if it will work with the special buttons on your keyboard, but you can have something like the F4 key or whatever. Try it anyway.
