  1. I'm using a Sony HDR-FX1 and I'm shooting a lot of my videos in HDV now. I use Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5.1 to edit the video and I'm wondering what are my distribution options besides putting the footage back on Mini DV tape.

What digital video files support HDV?

For example can I use MPEG-2, MPG, Windows Media, Quicktime, Real Player???

Is there a list somewhere? Also is there some kind of plugin I can get for my version of Premiere to export to different HDV file types?

    Thanks for any info.

Windows has a HD-WMV format that's getting good reviews.

What I plan is shooting HD then downconverting it via the cam to DV specs then edit. This workflow isn't recommended for the best quality but I have the original footage still in HD. What is recommended is to cap in HD which takes a more powerful box than mine. Interlace issues will have to be worked out in the future.

    Thanks for the reply zoobie.

Can I download software that will help me convert my HDV project to HD-WMV?

I would go with H.264/aac before wmv. It produces better results, especially at lower bitrates. You can use Megui with x264 to create an mp4, or use Mpegstreamclip to make an MOV with h.264/aac. Both work great and are free.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........
