I only post when I am stuck otherwise I try to find my answers by reading all the help forums I know of and going through almost every link found by Google based on my keywords. In this case I am stuck and I need help now.

It is a project I am working on for almost a year now but have not even started my DVD yet. It is not that I have been constantly working on this one for a year and did nothing else but off and on I came back spend a few days in learning and set it aside for some time.

OK, my ultimate goal is to create DVD's from mini dv's that I have which will have the date and time of the movie as a subtitile which I can turn it on or off withe the Main Menu or by pressing the Subtitle button on the remote while the movie is being played. Added to this is the problem that certain portions of those clips have plenty of noise in it and I need to apply cleaning filters to only those sections of the clips. I am almost done with my project and have even created a sample DVD with a very small clip whereby I can turn my subtitle on or off the way I want it. Here is what I did so far:

    1. First of all copied the avi's from my Digital Camera to the the computer using Windv.
    2. Extracted Date and Time with DVsubmaker and then created a .sub file.
    3. Converted this .sub file to .srt file using Subtitle Creator.
    4. Then used this .srt file in DVD Lab Pro to create the .sp1 file that DVD Lab Pro uses.
    5. Then used Tmpgenc to clean the video by using its Noise Filter at 100,3,100 setting. I must say I got wonderful results and that is what has been holding me for almost a year.
    6. The output I got from Tmpgenc is separate m2v and mp2 files. I need this because DVD Lab Pro only accepts separate audio/video streams and only one audio/video per DVD.

I don't want to apply filter to the sections of the video that are fine because the filter does fuzz out the image a very little bit. So, I will cut the sections of the AVI that need filtering, run them through Tmpgenc and then combine all the m2v and mp2 files into single m2v and mp2 files. It is this step that I am stuck at. I have searched all over to find a tool that will split/combine m2v and mp2 files.

Can someone please help me out here.....
    Thanks.

  2. The MP2 files will probably have to be converted to WAV (48khz, 16 bit stereo) and then joined (any WAV editor can do this, Nero, Goldwave etc). After joining, just convert it to back to one big MP2.

As for the video, im pretty sure Tmpgenc can do it using mpeg tools.

What tool can I use to convert mp2 to wav and vice-versa.

I tried using Tmpgenc to merge the m2v files and when I play them in WMV or Winamp, it gives wrong file duration. The slider at the bottom stops after 1:50 minutes whereas the movie keeps playing for another 15-20 seconds after that. Also, when I open that m2v file in DVD Lab Pro, it wants to demux it again into separate video and audio streams. I think Tmpgenc outputs the file as and Mpeg2 and not as m2v file. Since these are going to be huge files, that is going to waste a lot of time doing the unnecessary.

    Any workarounds ??
    Thanks.

Besweet will do the audio converting for you.

As for joining m2v? Off the top of my head I can't think of any freeware programs that will do that... Mpeg2Schnitt might do it, but i've never used it...

Worst case scenario is that you will have to multiplex the audio with each video segment, join the whole lot with Tmpgenc and then demux the final file for DVDlab...

Looks like I might have to go the worst case scenerio route unless someone else has any other suggestions.

I hate to do the 3 steps if I could do it in one.

    Anyone else please ???
    Thanks.

Well, I finally got what I wanted. I took borax's advice from this thread https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=322640. Used Cuttermaran and worked like a charm. This proggy is so good that it automatically loads the relevant mp2 file when you open an m2v file and gives you an output of 1 m2v and 1 mp2 file from multiple m2v and mp2 files.

At first, I was quite turned off with the program because I was finding it hard to work with. I uninstalled the program after trying for sometine. But when I read borax's post in the above thread, I re-installed it and tried it one more time. In fact the documentation at http://wiki.cuttermaran.net/ helped a lot. Now, Cuttermaran is permanent resident of my computer.

    Thanks everyone....
    Thanks.
