  1. It appears that my Pinnacle digital software is corrupt and it won't allow me to update it. I have a sony Digital 8 that I want to start to move the movies I have to DVD.

Can anyone recomend a good software tool for doing this. It would be done via firewire for the best capturing resolutions.

I checked the tools section but there are so many options I need some easy to use tools that offer great quality and ease...

    Can anyone offer some suggestions?

    Thanks
    Spankey!

I was going to go to best buy an buy software but want to make sure there isn't anything I can download in the mean time to test....

  2. Most name brand standalone DVD recorders that have firewire input do an excellent job of DV to DVD conversion. With prices on these machines as low as they are now, you really should check into that option. Plus, they convert DV footage to DVD in real time (no overnight encoding sessions tying up your computer).

For hand held camcorder footage, always use the highest quality recording setting (one hour per single sided DVD-R) and you will get a great looking DVD with virtually no motion encoding artifacts. Also, be sure to record in DVD-Video mode (not VR mode) and finalize the DVD-R's so they will play on other DVD players.

Some good starter software packages to look at are:

    Adobe Premiere Elements
    Sony Vegas Movie Studio
    ULead Video Studio (editing emphasis)
    ULead Movie Factory (authoring emphasis)

Both Ulead products mentioned have free 30 day trials available for download (www.ulead.com). You can either use nothing but the Ulead software or use WinDV to transfer over Firewire to get the footage onto your hard drive ready to convert to DVD at a later time.

  5. WinDV or ScenalyzerLive will be able to "capture" the video from your camcorder via Firewire.
