I have an LG DVD/CD reader and Nero InfoTool (version 4.2.1.0, latest) is reporting that it is unable to read DVD+RW discs. Yet when I load the reader with a DVD+RW disc it reads it perfectly. So then the report that INfoTool provides on DVD writers/readers is not reliable?

It may not be reading properly. I assume it just checks the firmware on the burner for all that info. You could try DVDInfoPro. There is also a ad-supported freeware version available.

I installed DVDInfoPro and it reports the same as Nero's InfoTool, uncapable of reading DVD+RW's, but as said it was able to read them. Curious.

Newer generations of players may be more capable than what firmware suggests. What it means it does not officially support DVD+RW, with other words you can't call LG asking about this particular feature. Same thing with standalones, some read more disk types then advertised (with lower reliability though).
