    When I burn a DVD here at work I always test it on three PCs I have here and also two DVD players. It seems to work fine.

    But when someone takes it out on a visit, sometimes (about 5% of the time) it refuses to play at all. The last time it was in a new Dell computer that plays other DVDs fine.

    Is it a fault with my burner hardware?
    As for software, I sometimes just burn the VIDEO_TS AUDIO_TS folders to the root of the disc and that seems to work fine.

    Would you say that I need a new up-to-date DVD burner?

    Help!

    The only way to get 100% compatibility is to get your DVDs professionally pressed. With burned media there are simply too many factors at play to expect 100% playback on all devices.

    What brand of DVD media are you using? That's the most common problem and the easiest to fix. If you are already using Verbatim or TY, then maybe it's something else.

    Burned DVDs seem to have about that same percentage of success with set top DVD players. Say 5 out of 100 that won't properly play a burned disc.

    With computer playback problems, it's more likely a issue with the DVD drive in the computer. There are lots of posts on these forums where a member can't play back a DVD on the same DVD drive that he burned it with.

    And what burning program are you using? ImgBurn seems to be one of the best for burning at present. Much better than Nero, for example. IMO.

    And to answer the question about needing a new burner; What is your present burner?

    When burning -- do you have an option to burn as DVD-VIDEO, or are you just dragging the two folders to the disc and burning them (like a DVD-DATA disc)

    For DVD-VIDEO, try using the DVD-VIDEO Option in your burning software (if available).

    Looking at the feedback for that rand in the database here, I'm surprised you have as much success as you claim. They seem to be a very mixed bag.

    LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-411S ... Not so good , burnt media compatability problems .

    I done multiple burn tests with one .

    Pioneer = fine
    Lg = Slow startup read
    Sony = instant xaos , lockups , bsod's .
    Hp = wouldnt even look at it

    We got rid of it cheap to someone who didnt want to do dvds , just cds .

    Some players are finicky. It would help if you set the booktype to DVD-ROM, this helps in most cases.

  9. Some old dvd players won't read +r disks. But all should read -r.

    Thanks ....

    Should I use DVD+Rs or -Rs? Is that an issue?
    +Rs just give extra audio features don't they?

    Makes no difference, I prefer +Rs, my scans come out slightly better. Just set the booktype (bitsetting) to DVD-ROM when using them as I said (of course you don't need to with -Rs). AND USE GOOD MEDIA! I only recommend TY and Verbatim.
