Do others tie your shoe laces and chew your food for you as well ?

Yes, you can burn Divx files to DVDs as data, and they will play in Divx/Xvid capable DVD players, so long as they comply to whatever encoding restrictions the player has.

Lots of them here: https://www.videohelp.com/convert#4;13 If it's just clips, try VirtualDub or VD Mod. For DVD conversions, try AutoGK. Lots of guides for each program.

Thanks but my problem isn't converting.

I am was just curious about Divx.
Truth is i probably don't need a guide if all you do is burn the data.

i think that's the problem. When searching for info all I can find is converters. No info on creating the actual disc.

There are two types of Divx disc. Both are created the same way - burn the files as data to a standard DVD. No tricks. Any food burning software can do it.

The difference is in the divx files themselves.

If you have a standard Divx/Xvid capable player, using AutoGK or AVIRecomp of FairUseWizard will give you a compliant Divx/Xvid file, ready for burning and playback. The basic restrictions for pretty much all players are 720 pixels or less in width, 2GB or less in size, and 2000kbps or less peak bitrate. QPEL and GMC are usually not allowed, although some players will allow some basic settings. The tools I mentioned take all of this into account when they encode.

If you have a Divx Ultra certified player then you can add basic menus, chapters and embedded switchable subtitles to the mix using appropriate authoring tools. They create a Divx encoded file with the extension .Divx. Until recently there were only a couple of choices, and neither seemed to work very well. DivxMediaBuilder was one, the other was available from the Divx Labs beta site. However the latest version of Tmpgenc DVD Author supports Divx authoring as well : http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda3.html

Again, once authored, just burn as data. Assuming that all other encoding factors are compliant, .divx files should play in any standalone Divx/Xvid capable player, however all the extra features will be ignored.
