I did ask a similar question on the end of another thread but this area probably justifies a post of its own. Something that's been bugging me with the emergence of new tv technologies is the prospect that all the stuff i've captured and authored in the past for tv IRE levels will now be overbright on a plasma or lcd tv.. not to mention that stuff i didn't crop off since i knew it would be hidden by overscan may now be visible. So my questions are.. how much of a concern need this be? How are the new tv's handling all this? I live in PAL land so thats 16-255 right? I read on the oter thread that playback devices make adjustments for black levels to suit region, which i hadnt realised. Does that mean that all content on eg. vhs, dvd etc is neutral in this respect.. has a 0 black level? Are next generation tv's going to perform similar adjustments to deal with this or will we be able to author stuff on the pc and have no need to callibrate as the levels will be the same (which would be very handy!) ?
please erm... illuminate![]()
