Hello.

I'm a kinda-newbie but have been reading for days everything I can get my hands on about capturing video. I decided to try out the "How To" guide on this site for capture to create an SVCD. A couple questions...

I have an AVI I captured using Virtualdub at 480*480 lines using the Huffyuv codec through a Pinnacle Studio PCTV Pro video capture card from the S-video output of my Tivo. Quality of this AVI is excellent but I am wondering if I should be capturing at something like 720*480 or some other frame size so I won't have that distortion when going through and encoding in TMPGEnc or CCE and having to convert to a 4:3 Display instead of 1:1 VGA or etc... What do you kids think?

It also seems there is a bit of a debate as to whether one should use TMPGEnc or CCE to encode (I've read many conflicting arguments) so I'm going to give both a try starting with TMPGEnc. Again I used the "How To" and used settings recommended except...

-under Settings>Video:
Rate Control = 2 pass VBR

-and under Settings>Advanced:
Source Aspect Ratio = 4:3 Display (since I captured at 480*480)
Audio I left alone.

Now to my problem... I tried using Toolame and my video and audio ended up out of sync by approx a quarter second. Tried again without Toolame and again, same problem. I'm not sure what else to check so... any ideas? Also, if anyone would like to debate the two encoders (or perhaps there is already a previous thread?) please do so...
