Recorded the Superbowl and the mpg file is too large to use the Ulead Movie factory 4.0 burn to disk function. I burned the Road to the Superbowl to RW-disk (only 1 hour) and then was able to use Shrink to cut out all the unwanted commercials, etc., and then burn to disk.
The game is way too large and gives an error in Ulead Movie Factory so I need to know how to change the mpg file into a Shrink readable file. I did a lot of searching but most end up with VideoReDo (at $50) and I don't do enough video editing to justify a $50 program. Even a trial program would suffice if I knew what to try and download.
Any help?
Thanks

You could use the free ReJig -
Start ReJig
Select file mode
Click add and locate your Super Bowl file
Look to the right, your video and audio will be there
Highlight the video, click demux, save
Highlight the audio, click demux, save
Click exit
Click DVD Author
Load the video then the audio
Select a destination folder and click create
Load the resulting VIDEO_TS folder into DVD Shrink
You can use ReJig to transcode but i've never tried it, I always use Shrink. He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect. -
Another approach would be to cut the file at half time and put the first half on one disk and the second half on the other.
That would give better quality than jambing all onto one disk. -
I use Womble MPEG-VCR to cut, edit, combine the MPEGs from my PVR-150. As bendix says, just cut the file into more manageable pieces.

Thankyou for the information. I downloaded the software and will give it a try today.
It's a shame that they give you Ulead Movie Factory with the PVR-150 card, but can only burn files to disk. You would think they would allow you to save the file to a folder (which you can), but then it is resaved as a mpg file again, and still unable to be read by Shrink.
If I am able to divide the large file into DVD size chunks, then I will be able to output each chunk to DVD-RW and then import into shrink.
Thanks again, -

I really cannot recommend enough that you get a real video editor like VideoReDo or MPEGVCR. You only have to buy it once and it's well worth the money. If you can believe this, back in 2001 when there were very few choices on the market for MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 frame accurate video editors, I bought MPEGVCR (then called MPEG2VCR) for about $250. Today it costs much much less, but I don't regret the original purchase. It helped me a lot and I feel that I got my money's worth. I even bought VideoReDo over a year ago because I think it's better than MPEGVCR at editing high definition MPEG video.

I am shocked to see from the red highlights in my post that there actually is a product called "Real Video Editor" and I want to point out that I did not intend to refer to this product but was trying to make the point that the original poster could use a video editor rather than trying to do stuff on the cheap with free tools like DVD Shrink.

Try DVD flick I used it on my purchased UFC67 MPG file and it works!!!
And just cuz DVDshrink is free/cheap does not mean it is not reliable!!!
Actually if you have Nero you could use Nerovision express and save as dvd-9 size then use shrink to fit to dvd-5 .....so shrink still rocks IMHO !!!
I use a combination of free and purchased progs to get my work done!" Who needs Google, my wife knows everything" -
I'd like to thank everyone again for the helpful information.
I downloaded 2 or 3 trial programs, and Womble MPEG-VCR seemed to do the trick in dividing the large mpg2 file into useable segments. Some of the other suggestions, including DVD Flick want to burn to disk rather than to a file, so the 4-5 hours of Superbowl (had to set timer extra hour or so in case of a tie, etc.) would be shrunk even on a double layer DVD before I would get a chance to delete the useless ads (am keeping some of the good ones) and therefore degrade the file more than necessary--so Womble MPEG-VCR did just that for me.
As to what program I should purchase--I thought someone complained about VideoReDo, although a great program, was always charging when a new upgrade came out, compared to some of the others with lifetime updates. Anyone useing these other programs, could you give me the lowdown on which one is comparable and yet not going to cost me forever?
Even the Womble MPEG-VCR (trial version) still needs another program to burn to DVD so I can then use Shrink on it. I think Shrink is a really great program, I'm able to merge all the segments into 1 title set and then see how much compression is needed, am able to delete unwanted scenes with the start-end frame commands, but the best part to me is the fact that it keeps telling me how much I still need to trim or how much more I will need to compress, or whether I want to go to two disks.
It didn't seem like the other programs (haven't used all of free trials yet) were able to tell me the running time of the file as I made changes like Shrink. So if any of them would allow me to divide a large mpg2 file, allow me to make my trims and keep a running time on the remainder so I wouldn't have to us Shrink and convert to DVD ready file, please let me know.
Thanks in advance
