Ok, I realize that +r is technically better, but if I burn a dvd backup onto a dvd -r , in what way will it be inferior, if at all, vs a dvd +r? I have some extra dvd -r's sitting around and I thought I would try them out. So far I have mostly used +r ok. Will I notice much difference if I use a dvd -r?

    thanks,

I wonder if maybe a "What's the difference between DVD+R/W and DVD-R/W and DVD-RAM?" stickey should be added under the [Media] forum?

Ok, so the fact that there is no way to change the booktype to DVD-Rom with DVD -R means, there is no real need to have that ability with DVD -R?

the thread j1d10t linked to seems particularly out of date.

Using modern equipment and modern media, there is little differences beyond your personal experience and your equipment in the media results. And there certainly is no cost difference,

Booktyping in DVD+R seems to have eliminated the incompatiblity with many older players. But there are still some that won't read any burned media in service.

There are burners which seem to have a preference but that may be explained by reasons other than + or -.

ok, I will use these dvd -r's for something rather than letting them sit around. I got them free with some usb/power bar cable package. They are vakoss 8x (Prodisc F01) which is really kinda low-end. I checked and they seemed to have somewhat mixed feedback. Oh well, I won't archive anything crucial on these -r's like my family vhs-c video's or anything too important..
