Usually a Symantec acquisition is the alternative to shutting down. No matter how much Symantec pays.
-
Not in this case, Altiris is very deeply embedded in US Airforce and other multinational companies. Symantec's purchase of Ghost was suppose to displace Altiris and MS in computer management, but Symantec could never do the required R&D, so they chose to by another company that could do it.Originally Posted by oldandinthe way

Who were the big players when ghost was own by Binary Research?Originally Posted by bendixG15
That's the point I made about R&D
Many don't know that Binary Research kept improving the background plugin for ghost, to make a single image for multiple computer hardware setups. Again something Symantec couldn't do. -
They acquired Powerquest and Drive Image disappeared.

I agree. They buy, gain control and eliminate. None of Symantec's products could be called innovative for long, long time. The world would probably be better without it. Never liked Ghost either.Originally Posted by oldandinthe way
