    I have an avi movie that I will encode to DVD with Cinema Craft Encoder SP2, but before that I want to create a subtitle. I am using Ulead DVD Workshop 2 so I know how to add a subtitle.

    But how do I create it so it's synchronized with the movie and with what program so it's compatible for insertion with Ulead DVD Workshop 2?

    And I was also wondering how to create an intro to the movie, some text before the movie, can I do this using Ulead DVD Workshop 2?

    Subtitle Workshop.

    Many useful features, read the help file to get full benefit. For instance, it can estimate length of time from amount of text of each subtitle.

    It can export almost any text-based subtitle format, one of these should be compatible with Ulead.

    if you really want to get fancy, then edit it in Aegisub to add all kinds of formatting.

    I prefer VisualSubSync myself when it comes to creating subs from scratch, mainly because it is extremely easy to sync the subs to the audio.

    <deleted - this was plain wrong>

    I use both of the above, VisualSubSync for creation/timeing and Subtitle Workshop for editing/manipulation/conversion, etc.

    @träskmannen: "... can't see the video... ". That's odd, I don't have that problem. I've opened avi, mpg2 and even flv by way of Avisynth Directshow source and FFDshow. Plus the detached video window being resizeable makes it easier to see the subs. The only catch I've had is it doesn't handle mp3/ac3 audio so well. Not a problem though, I just extract to wav before hand and it works fine.

    @GTRBudda - You are of course right - I stand corrected. I wonder WTF I was thinking about when I posted that? A clear case of Alzheimer Light...
