  1. Hi

Maybe a silly question to you guys - but here goes :-

Can you reformat a DVD RW?

(to mark the bad sectors - so as to get some use out of them - I don't appear to get many uses before problems - they say a 1000 I'm nearer 20

    regards

I have never thought of reformatting a RW in that way. AFAIK, it's reformatted fully each time you perform that operation. I don't think it can map out bad sectors like a hard drive. You might try a different program to do your reformat and make sure it's a full reformat, not a quick one. Worth a try anyway.

If that doesn't help, then it sounds like a problem with your burner or your discs. I would try a different brand of disc first, as that's the easiest thing to change. From there, either try a firmware update or replace the burner.

Take a look at the writing surface and see if it looks uniform after a reformat. If you have blotches, then it may be a disc problem.

But someone here may have better info.
