CNET reviews a wide variety of products. I would appreciate opinions on the accuracy of their reviews.

  2. Their reviews vary between an accuracy of 72.8% and 91%.

Depending on what kind of reveiw your looking for I would use www.tomshardware.com or www.hardocp.com or www.sharkyextreme.com before I would use Cnet

toms is very biased i would say (nowdays) , cnet is good in that you can gleen end users opinions and long term reliability a bit better than 'how fast does it go'

  6. I include newegg.com's reviews when looking for stuff. I don't go by what just one site says. Because of the quantities newegg sells, there's a pretty decent representation there.

I also like the Newegg reviews as a starting point. Extremetech.com and Anandtech.com are 2 others I like.

I'd have to say that about 75% (3 out of every 4 or so) of user reviews are biased by their own stupidity. They either are oblivious to flaws, or are seemingly bias against products for silly reasons (if any reason at all!).

I also strongly disagree with statements like "Because of the quantities newegg sells, there's a pretty decent representation there." More people just means more dumbasses.

You also run into lots of folks that just plug something in and never actually use it fully. They have no concept.

This mostly applies to technology. It's easy to review a mop or a ceiling fan. Computer hardware, video hardware, software, etc.... too much ignorance going around to rely on anything from the unknown reviewers online.

Magazines tend to be pretty crappy too. Deadlines and rushing are the main factors there. I could write a book on that topic.

    Accuracy of a given review - 0% to 99%.

The Internet gives equal weight to the opinions of those who have sub-normal IQs. Even on some sites that hire professional reviewers.

I have a son-in-law who reads these reviews and bases his purchasing decisions on them. I have yet to be impressed by the quality or value of his purchases. Unfortuanately he also researched gifts I have received so I get to live with some of these misjudgments as well.

There is lotsa crappy stuff out there.

I use reviews in the hope that I won't end up buying a piece of junk.

I don't believe the review will get me the "best bang for the buck" .

Its sorta like hot tips in the stock market, lotsa hype doesn't stop it from being a dog.

  11. It depends, you have to make your own research and check forums. I have seen they review and it is accurate but it does not apply to real life. A good example in my opinion is when they review cameras none of these guys are photographers points they compare are just options embeded into menus and have no practical use. All that said I look at them just as a general info but if I want to buy I check forums to find ins and outs of the product. When Tom in tom's hardware was there you could feel his personal opinion and that was nice like lordsmurf or some of you guys, I think they mostly elaborate the specs published and throw in some cons.

Newegg generally does not publish reviews which are not favorable to a product, in my experience. I've written some, both good and bad. I would trust them less than a manufacturer's own forums.

Generally, I agree on Tomshardware, etc.
