When a laptop is used for the first time is the battery fully charged? I'm trying to find out how to charge it. I can see the battery light is yellow. The laptop is Toshiba A105-4284.

Usually it's not charged when you first get it. It may take several hours or more to fully charge it the first time.

Depending on the model, the battery light may be green or blue when fully charged.

The laptop also probably has a battery program that will run occasionally and completely discharge the battery, then recharge it. That tests the battery and resets the 'charge gauge' or whatever indicator it uses to tell you the battery charge conditon. The charging is generally controlled by the computer, so there should be no risk of overcharging it.

  3. Tosiba laptop comes with a battery guage application. Look into your utilty or start menu.

To charge the laptop. Plug the charger into AC outlet, then plug the charger DC plug into the laptop.

It is very similar to charging a cell-phone, or toothbrush, or shaver, or electrical tool, or....

read the book that came with the laptop or maybe even ask the person or store you got it from to demo how to charge the battery

Statement of the obvious, but the manual is always the best place to start for information like this. Most laptops I've seen can be charged simply by plugging in the AC power lead. The laptop can be on or off but should work quicker if off.
    If in doubt, Google it.
