I apologize if this isn't the right forum but I've got good advice
here before.
I own a number of music videos and would like to combine
a few songs from each and re-author them into one "Best of" dvd.
I would like to preserve the original audio/video quality if possible.
I have cce, winavi, DGIndex and a number of other conversion tools.
I tried a DVD Ripper to create an AVI file and the resulting file
didn't look great. Maybe it was the tool.
What is a good tool for extracting a particular clip and what
should the output be ? AVI ? MPEG2 (is this format video only ?)
I am just getting into this stuff so forgive the simple questions.
Am I going to have trouble if the aspect ratios are different ?
I was thinking of using TMPGEnc DVD Author or ULead of MovieMaker
to create the final movie.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I would use dvd shrink in reauthoring mode to cut out the clips and then add the vobs in tda.

Thanks. I didn't notice that guide. Sounds exactly what I'm looking for.
I'll give it a try. -
I hadn't noticed that feature of DVD Shrink before. It works well.
One thing - I'm using r3.2 and am not experiencing any issues with the sound being off, as described in the guide above.
I have created each clip and then added them to DVD Author project.
Thanks for the suggestion, ZippyP. I'll look into that. -
I finished ripping each song using Shrink, but when I went to put Author them, DVD Author complained that the combined bit rate
of the video of 9800 and audio 448 exceeded the 9848.
I suppose I'll need to reduce the video ? using ? CCE ?
Another thing I found was that I had to add one track for each combination of aspect ratio and audio properties, since I couldn't combine them on one track.
Maybe I should make them the same ? using ? CCE ?
Thanks again -
Hi-
I suppose I'll need to reduce the video ?
Not necessarily (and probably not). Go ahead and author. Only if you get buffer underruns will you have to reencode.
I didn't understand the second question. Are some of the videos 4:3 and others 16:9? If so, and if the audios are all different as well, there's nothing wrong with authoring them as separate tracks. If I were you, I'd try and avoid reencoding, as it seems to me that you may not be very experienced using a real MPEG-2 encoder.
