newbie old fart here, and yes I need help big time. Here's what I am hoping to do, if it is at all possible.
    1. I have tons of VHS movie's and I would really like to put them onto a dvd.
    2. I would like to also copy my DVD's I already have onto another DVD so I can take these copies with us to our cabin. Save's me from having to haul them back and forth.

The puter I am using has the windows xp media edtion on it and I also have several buring programs also, but every time I go to use these programs I seem to screw things up and it never works???

So what I need is a program for old fatrs dummy program, you know step by step something that is impossible for me to screw up

If anybody can help the old fart here I would really apprearate it.

    Thanks Old fart in Alaska

    2. Please read some guides, I would use https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?guideid=666#666 , you might have to use DVD Fab Decrypter for some new movies.

    1) There are masses of info and guides on this site, this is very well covered. Have a search around forums and site. Post back if you somehow don't find it. It is very simple, I mean the conversion. Just make sure you have a hard disk with a couple hundred gig free.

    2) Most people can backup their DVDs using DVDshrink (google or follow link). If DVDshrink complains due to newer protection schemes, then use RipItForMe or DVD Fab Decriptor. I think you will find DVDshrink fine and it is dead easy to use - it removes protection, and reduces file size down to 4.7 gig so you can use the cheaper single layer DVDs and will kick off Nero to burn it.

Report back if you need more help.

IF you aren't going to do any editing, and just want a 1 to 1 transfer, use vhs to dvd recorder, with a sima device inbetween to bypass macrovison. That would be your fastest and easiest way. If you want to combine movies, edit, and extract clips, then you should look at a decent editing/authoring software such as adobe premiere elements, or vegas movie studio. There are others, but those would give you the most bang for the buck, without having to learn multiple softwares. If you are the experimental type, there are various free or inexpensive softwares that will do the various parts that you need to do.

    Dummy friendly?
Use a DVD recorder for the VHS to DVD.
Use DVD Decrypter (rip ISO) and DL media.

    Two simple methods.

or you can visit and try SPAM and transfer your home video tapes to dvd. You can get a pretty good conversion at a reasonable price from a lot of places. But what are most of these companies lacking? Care and attention to detail! Other ways you get totally amateurish product done with domestic equipment.
