    http://www.sothink.com/product/flashdecompiler/ seems to be popular...or google for "swf to fla" or swf decompiler, search also google groups/news.

    So Think operated Ok but couldnt handle large files IMO
    found another convertor that did the job in a different routine

    "another" converter? why not tell what converter? Maybe others have same problem...

    Hi baldrick
    i used a DVd catylst and then imported the file into
    Flash 8 video
    then chose embed in swf
    when saved the save file prodcues an Fla file.
    you can probabaly do that staright into flash with an AVI.
    Editing processes seem restrictive in Flash but with some
    patience you can geta result
