I have an avi that won't play on my PC. I want to convert it to dvd eventually.

WMP only plays the audio but no video
    TMPGEnc says unknown format
MPC only plays the audio but no video.
ConvertxtoDVD says "No decodable video stream found"
VirtualDub says "Cannot detect file type"
VLC plays it ok. The Stream information says video is 3IVD and audio is mpga.

I have installed the codec from 3IVX.com

Does anyone have a solution or is this file RS!
I don't know anything about VLC but since it is the only thing that will see the avi is it able to do any sort of conversion?

Open up the troublesome AVI in the latest version of GSpot and then post a screenshot of the information it gives on the file.

From there we should be able to determine what the problem is.

My guess is that VLC may have the codec stored internally, and so not available for use by other apps on your PC. But just a guess...

I've captured the Gspot off desktop, how do I paste it here on the forum reply. I've searched FAQ but can't find an answer.

It appears to be damaged somewhere, however VLC is pretty good at playing partial and damaged files. I believe that VLC can also stream or frameserve somehow, so perhpas you need to do some reading of the help files or at the VLC site.
