    Anyone seen this?

I've download the app and binaries.
Every time I try to install, I get this:

##rcmd: getaddrinfo: No address associated with nodename
tar (child): /Applications/Video\VD/ffmpegX.app/Contents/Resources/mux.tgz: Cannot open: (null)
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now

gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
    /Applications/VideoVD/ffmpegX.app/Contents/Resources/gnutar: Child returned status 2
/Applications/VideoVD/ffmpegX.app/Contents/Resources/gnutar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Redownloading files and installation is a no go.

iMac, system 10.4.8, 2 gigs of RAM.

The folder name "VideoVD" or "Video/DVD" could be causing an error, because of an illegal character. Try "Video_DVD" or even better don't put ffmpegX in a subfolder at all.

This problem is so common that it begs for some sort of pre-emptive solution. Perhaps the installer script could be modified to check for illegal characters, and alert the user to the need for a fix, rather than simply failing for reasons that are mysterious to the uninitiated (and to those who haven't read the documentation).

On the topic of binaries, every time I open ffmpeg, it asks me to install mpeg2enc. Only that one. The other two are fine. Any ideas?

You should download mpeg2enc.intel, even for PPC (G4/G5), as that is a Universal Binary. Your downloaded binary should be 501480 bytes in size.
    From the download page:
The mpeg2enc binary for ffmpegX 0.0.9x is available here (don't click but use CTRL-click on link and then "Download linked file").
Firefox users may find that the corresponding contextual menu option reads "Save link as", and that Firefox downloads more accurate as it keeps the filename intact (mpeg2enc.intel), where Safari incorrectly marks it as text file (mpeg2enc.intel.txt). The installer will work on either, tho'.
