    PowerDVD users:
    ----------------------------------

To play my 16x9 encodes videos in the way they were intented to be played
under powerdvd, please apply the follow settings:

    4:3 Pan&Scan Screen:
    [Change to 1024 x 768]
    [x] Ask me before change
    -- -- -- --
    16:9 Widescreen:

[ ] Ask me before change
    -- -- -- --
    Screen Control:
    [ ] Run full screen
    [x] Keep screen aspect ratio

Note, all other SW players will play incorrectly, and result in 4:3 view.
Fullscreen view in SW players ie, WinDVD incorrectly displays 16x9
encoded videos. Only True DVD disks w/ 16x9 are played properly in
    WinDVD.
So you understand properly, windvd only stretches to 1.777 (widescreen
view - filling the ws tv set fullscreen) and will not stretch my 2.35:1 encodes
properly. Instead it will stretch things taller. So, please use powerdvd to
get the full (true) effect and quality - thanks.

    NOTES
    * No real-time or hardware MPEG-1/2 encoding in any of these samples.
    * no FILTERing, except where noted, ie VHS sources.
    * Windows 98 (not SE) / XP 1700+ or 1800+ / 256DDR ram
    * ATI-TV Wonder (ATW) capture card (for some encodes)
    * Capture: AVI via HUFFY codec.
    * Source can be from: Satalite, VHS or DVD
    * please don't ask for INSTRuctions on my "How To's" here. there are
plenty of them on this FORUM and then some. I don't have the time to
hand spoon feed everyone on my processes/methods per these samples.
    Thanks!

bbb, my appoligies for not responding. I didn't see you post correctly, or
may you revised it. (I've ben having trouble w/ my posting here, as I
can't delete my own thread topic) I've also had a sys. crash last night
and I had to delete the sample clip I just posted last night, this morning.
confused by that last line? he, he...
I think the clip WAS still posible to D/L and play, just not the whole file.
    But, it's gone now.

I'll be uploading another clip altogether.

    Oh, yes, HUFFY!!! no filtering.

As always, if you have a request of other types of samples clips,
movie previews, tv shows, upcoming new show/movies, etc., please
    ask. I'm always taping/capping/encoding.

I'm planning on compiling a "completed" list, of all my encodings and

    After noon all.

Just wanted to let ya know, I uploaded a NEW sample VCD clip for
you to try on your DVD players. Those that R stuck with standard VCDs
should be able to play these, as well as those that can play anything.
These can be burned (i use Nero) as a standard VCD w/ compliance on
or off - as both will work. I stuck to the standard.
I post these clips for your comparison tests w/ yours, etc. bla, bla, bla...

As always, please read the How-To's to your left and all the Guides that
are posted on this FORUM for maximum VCD, SVCD, etc. creation.

Please see top of this thread for latest clips to D/L
    Enjoy the clips, he, he...

    -vhelp
PS: As soon as I get my website back up, I'll be able to post latest news
there for you to see. Just remember to bookmark it ...next time I post it.

You say Standard VideoCD, I take this as "Fully compliant" but I have taken a look at your first movie and find that it is "NON Standard"

    Your Original.
    Frame size,fps 352X340 23.976 fps
    bitrate 1156Kbps (142Kb/s)

After TMPGENc using NTSC VCD template (Compliant)
    352x240, 29.970
    bitrate 1145Kbps (140kb/s)

Only a 4Kb difference, but there again its only a short clip...

    Hello all.

I just posted yet another Standard VCD sample clip.
I think you'll appreciate this one. You can use it for you own intros
or collection - that is, if cap quality is less than what I have presented
in the above sample D/L list.

    Enjoy.

    Good evening all...

Sorry about the corrupt .RAR file. I found this out while at work. We
have fast connection, so this is how I test the success of the upload.
I was pretty upset when I found out it was corrupt I think I had uploaded it as an ASCII file, instead of BINARY.

But, all should be fixed now, so please D/L
    Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

NOTE: vdub inacurrectly states 1143 as average BitRate on ALL my
clips, even though they are encoded correctly and w/ Standard VCD
    specifications ie, 1150 bitrate.

It's ben a while since my last UPload of a sample clip.
This one is a CVD and it's in nice quality - to me anyways
    You'll like the video though.

If you're one of those that can't play CVD's, then maybe if you re-mux
the audio to 44k instead of 48k, it will work - in theory, I think it will
    work! Good luck anyways.

    Good morning all.

I have uploade an NEW sample clip. See top of page 1 for D/L link.

    Some notes:
    -----------------------
1, - this latest sample play perfectly on both my AD-1500. However, those
that had the unit re-ROMed (as I did) for MV removal, will note a slight
bug in play mode. I noited that the widescreen view played about 16pixels
top/bottom narrower, but on my non MV unit, the aspect ratio was correct.
2, - note, quality of the latest sample is pendant on source quality from my
satalite, and the network that aired it at the time.
3, - this is my first time actually doing a 720x480 encode for my DVD player.
4, - I'm not so sure that I encoded the video aspect ratio wise, ie, did I
encode it w/ 4:3 or was it 16x9, I just can't remember. Sorry.
5, - next time, I'm provide an even better quality sample... I hope.
6, - this template is based on my previous template. I did some messing
around and found that it worked slightely better at 720x480. So, I decided to
try and make as close to DVD format as I new how (which I don't) other than
loading up the DVD template that TMPG supplies. I'll have to play around some
more with this though. I haven't worked out an actual template for all to
use, as I don't like comming up w/ this sort of stuff, and not to mention the
critics that love to tare it up w/ nonsense puppy-poop!
7, - if you want some fun, just run it through DVD2AVI and *.d2v it and
    re-encode it to something else.
8, - in any case, i'll be utilizing my "v" stamp in all my future encodes.

Well, enjoy my new format, and let me know if it works in your DVD player, or
    not, he, he...

Well, this makes my 1,000th post here. Yeah!

Here is another Sample clip for you to check out.

Sorry, this clip was damanged due to incorrect UPLOADing.
I didn't check off [x]Binary and [x]Auto during my FTP.

    --snip--snip-- here. . . . . . . . .

    Larry,
    >> The Jewel video never worked on my Skyworth 1080P - jerky and distorted
    >> sound which leads me to believe it cannot play CVD's though it has no problem
    >> with SVCD's
Try these steps that may or may not cure your jerky issues (mostly due to audio)
1, - if you run into problems with some of my samples, try a different approach. ie,
.....for my new templated clips, use bbMPEG and re-MUX to either SVCD or DVD specs
.....under Program Stream Settings, and re-MUX as an new MPG. Make sure you first
.....split (de-mux) audio and video into *.mpa and *.m2v files, so you can bring into
    .....bbMPEG for the re-MUXing.
.....After doing this, your new "compliant" SVCD or DVD should be ready for authoring
.....as a DVD in your SVCD or DVD authoring software (I hope)

Ok, after yesterdays failed UPLOADing of new Sample Clip (see prev. post)
I've got a new one, and hope you enjoy it for your comparison or whatever.
This time, I've verified that the clip D/L's correctly - so no waisting time

I'm working on a FASTer scene clip to upload in a day or so. ...comming soon!

I have a new sample clip for D/L available. It's a nice one w/ some fast
    movements in it.

Please burn to CD to appreciate. I used nero:
    * when burning, select SVCD, and uncheck [ ] Create standard compliant CD
The results are excellent on my Apex AD-1500, and viewed on my 13"
I'm hoping to take sample cd to a 27" and even larger, if time allows, so
I can see what it actually looks like on larger screens, he, he...

    So, enjoy.

DVD's in progressive mode were really good - SVCD and CVD were not that good at all an in some respects not that watchable

Im gonna take a wild stab at it..
    Min 1600
    Max 3500
    Encoding mode: CQ..?

Anyway, would be cool if I could get a template with the vmatrix included or something. Im very impressed with your samples.

    Thanks.

NEW sample - xDVD or something I hope you like it. Source is Satalite
DirecTV using only RCA plugs this time.
Burn to CD (mpeg-2) w/ compliance checked off.
Let me know if it worked on your DVD player w/ whatever quality you get, thanks.

NEW sample - Standard VCD. However, for some strange reason, Nero
wouldn't burn w/ Compliance ON, so lease turn it off.
Its a VHS sample - not VHS quality but for a Standard VCD, it's not so
bad a VHS-to-VCD for those of yous STUCK with only using VCD format.

    Thank you.
