Thinking of buying one of these inexpensive units for my downstairs TV. Seems to be the same machine as the Magnavox MRW10D6; except cosmetically different. Both are made by Funai.

Yeah I went to the Funai website a while ago when I first heard about the SV2000 and sure enough it does appear to be the same as the Magnavox unit that Walmart sells but of course it is a bit cheaper than the Magnavox model and yet since both are essentially the same thing by Funai so I can't imagine one being better than the other since the "guts" are the same.

Although neither have selectable bitrate (I'm talking like the MN modes on the Pioneers or the Flex mode of the Panasonics etc.) they do both offer many more fixed modes than other recorders. For instance there is a 2 hour then 2 1/2 hour then 3 hour modes. I've seen some DVD recorders go from a 2 hour mode straight to a 4 hour mode.

Might be worth it if you intend to only use it for "high quality" sources like cable TV or satellite TV etc. as I have a feeling it might not be the greatest at a "low quality" source such as a VHS video. God only knows what kind if any TBC or video synchronization is offered in this thing.

Also I wanted to add I saw a post you made about the RCA with the HDD that is sold at WALMART and I must say I've heard next to nothing about that model. You want might to check the DVD Recorder forum over at the AVSFORUM.COM website.
