Can someone answer me this at least, if I put a blank DVD (Verbatim) into my DVD writer, a dialog should pop up (XP OS) recognizing a blank DVD and asking me if I want to open a writable DVD folder, is this not so? I put in a blank DVD and it sees a blank CDR and the folder it opens "encounters problems" trying to write anything to it, or getting anything into a burn queue. Is my DVD write drive a dud? Thanks.

That depends on your software and default settings. Most packages do incorporate autoplay feature. If your default setting for a blank media is to "open folder" to view it's content no wonder there are some problems as the folder/files/media are simply unreadable. The popup should ask you what you want to do: burn or ignore (jumping to unwritten media doesn't make sense). Check your software settings and ask someone to explain how to use it. It has nothing to do with the dvd drive.

When that dialogue opens out of the box you get a number of choices, and a tick box that says remember my choice. If you ticked the box and selected something silly, then that will continue to happen.

However in your case I suspect it is a different problem.

kippard ... I hope the pm is not over your head ... just follow the basic steps should help you somewhat towards a decision ... let me know how it gose .

InXess ... While opening to blank media might seem pointless to you .

You obviously have never had two windows explore windows opened and used the feature called "drag and drop" ... it work's ... if it dosent there on your system , then you have a problem .

guns1inger ... "When that dialogue opens out of the box you get a number of choices"

Not if it's been accidentally chosen not to take action , and the box has been checked ... it will not re-appear unless the option is reset by going into windows explorer , right click on the drive , and reset the default options .

WAIT! DVD writing not supported in Windows. It worked using IMG Burn. Unreal.
