I am trying to use VCDEasy to create a VCD, but CDRDAO does not detect my CD writer. I have a brand new Dell Dimension 8200 with an NEC 7900 CDRW drive. When I started with VCDEasy, I did not have the ASPI files installed, but I got ForceASPI and got that corrected, but then I got the "no CD writer" error. I saw on the CDRDAO website that NEC drive is not listed among the supported drivers, but I was hoping the generic driver would work.

Does anyone know if it is that generic driver which is installed by default in CDRDAO?

How do you change drivers for CDRDAO, assuming that a different one would work with my NEC drive?

Is anyone having any luck using CDRDAO with a new Dell PC, or am I just plain out of luck here?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

  2. I am not familiar with your particular drive or the VCD Easy interface, but I suggest that you download a freeware tool called "XDuplicator". It is a Win32 GUI for CDRDAO and basically has similar functionality to CDRWin.

You can easily change the driver with XDuplicator. CDRDAO comes with a number of drivers including the "generic" one. This usually works with most drives.

For a guide on burning CUE/BIN images, follow the "CUE/BIN" article link here: http://www.geocities.com/medinotes/vcd or the mirror http://www.vcdimager.org/guides

    vitualis,

Thank you for your help. I downloaded XDuplicator as you suggested, but I do not see any options for changing CDRW drivers. It does not detect my current drive. Could you tell me how you change drivers using XDuplicator?

  4. I apologize. Just loaded up XDuplicator myself... and I can't find that option. I thought you could though. I'll have to look into this further.
