CCE is short for Cinema Craft Encoder. It does not come with Avi2Dvd as it is a commercial (non-free) program. If you have it, Avi2Dvd can use it to encode the video. If you don't have it, use one of the provided free encoders instead. The HCEnc encoder included with Avi2Dvd gets very good reviews for quality.
Good luck. -
Are you trying to convert an avi to DVD ? If so, the advice you have been given is correct.
If you are trying to convert to an avi file then you have the wrong software completely (and surely the name AVI 2 (TO) DVD would have told you this) and should try something like AutoGK instead.Read my blog here.

Hi-
I'd say you have 4 choices:
1. If you have CCE, install it and point the program to it.
2. If it also supports a different MPEG encoder, install it if you have it or can get it, and then point the program to it.
3. Find a different all-in-one program to do the AVI2DVD conversion.
4. Do the conversion on your own, using a freeware encoder, such as HCEnc. -
@cobra123:
I've used Avi2Dvd several times with no problems. It's been awhile since I've installed or used it, so my memory may be a little rusty, but bear with me.
After you install it, in the the "Step 3 Encoders" section, there is a box with a red background which says "Locate CCE" on it, implying that you are supposed to locate it. When you click that button, you get what appears to be an error message, like the "no CCE found" that you refer to, so you think there is a problem. There really isn't. This is just bad interface design and probably the source of your confusion. You DO NOT need to locate it (although you can if actually have CCE installed; then the box background changes to green but it still says "Locate CCE").
Just use one of the other 4 choices (QuEnc, NuEnc, FreeEnc, or HCEnc), all of which were installed when you installed Avi2DVD. Click the circle next to the one you want, and you're good to go.
Here's a page full of links to Avi2Dvd guides in case you run into problems:

And kschang has written a very good one here at Videohelp that shows how to use the subtitle and menu features of the program:

I've never used those features myself.
Once you figure it out, it's a very good program. I used it with CCE, and the video quality was excellent compared to similar programs I tried. I've heard the HCEnc encoder is about as good, though, if somewhat slower.
Good luck. -
