I recently got a 6600GT. I put it in my pc and played for a while, but then my pc froze. It ONLY happens in my pc and only when that specific card is in. I have re-installed XP a few days ago, the nVidia drivers are up to date. Although I did have a 6200 in my pc when i re-installed XP. It doesn't just freeze in games. It freezes anywhere! and at any time. My temps and usages are also normal.

  3. You state it only happens in your PC. Do you mean that the same card, if installed in a different PC, runs normally? This would isolate the issue to some problem with your particular PC and that particular card.

Otherwise I would agree with BJ_M, that the card is defective or improperly installed.

  4. Your power supply may be too weak. Does the card have a molex connector for additional power? Did you use it?

Make sure you have at least a 400W power supply since these cards use a lot of energy. If so, check the driver - make sure you have the latest from the website.

Is this graphics card running in an ASRock P4VM8?

Make sure that you have the latest VIA drivers installed. Get them from http://www.viaarena.com

Also make sure that your mobo is running the latest BIOS.

I had this trouble with a Nvidia 6600GT card. It just didn't work in one of my PC's - (Froze and locked up computer) must have been motherboard incompatibility. I switch it with a ATI 9600 pro out of another computer. 9600 pro works fine in it and the 6600GT works fine in the other computer.

I've had that happen with a bad motherboard ...twice. But I would look at the power requirements first. It sounds like it's overloading your PS.
