I bought TMPGEnc Plus 2.5. It worked great for many files. I am working with DVD-Lab Pro and saw it reference the AC-3 plug-in for TMPGEnc Plus, so I purchased it as well.

The AC-3 plug-in has worked flawlessly within DLP, but now when I run a file through TMPGEnc Plus the resultant file has not sound at all. It seems regardless of the file types I feed it.

I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE that the loss in sound resulted from the addition of the AC-3 plug-in. It just seemed about the same time.

I read a few posts and saw request for screen shots from GSpot. Here is an example of a file that resulted in no sound.

I split the screen shot to left and right pieces so you can see it.

It's because this VBR mp3 audio (look at the top right of the audio panel). Tmpgenc doesn't like VBR at all.
Extract this audio as uncompressed wav using VirtualDubMod, and use this wav as audio source when encoding with Tmpgenc.

    Cheers.

With MP3 audio I prefer to extract using Goldwave. Just load the AVI file then save to a PCM WAV file.

Another option is to use either AVIDemux or AVImux GUI to demux the MP3 audio then use Audacity to convert to a PCM WAV file. This work flow is the freeware approach since Goldwave is NOT freeware.

Also you really shouldn't be using TMPGEnc Plus to do your audio unless you are using PCM WAV on the DVD. In most instances of creating a DVD you want to use AC-3 audio.

So once you extract your MP3 and get it to a PCM WAV audio file you should convert to AC-3 and for freeware you have ffmpegGUI or Aften.

If you like to use the WIZARD mode in TMPGEnc Plus so as to take advantage of the built-in bitrate calculator then use the PCM WAV file (made from the MP3) as your input but pick MP2 audio as your output and set the MP2 bitrate to the same bitrate used to create your AC-3 audio file. Then after TMPGEnc Plus is done you can use the video file with the AC-3 file. You see ... although AC-3 is better quality than MP2 you will find that when the bitrates are the same the file size is the same. So a 256kbps MP2 audio file is the same size as a 256kbps AC-3 audio file. This is why you can pick MP2 audio in TMPGEnc Plus and get the bitrate correct even though you are going to use the AC-3 file in the end ... just make sure you match the audio bitrates and everything else will work out size wise.

You were right. I looked for a file that showed audio as constant bitrate and it procesed fine with audio. Thanks.

BTW- I bought the TMPGEnc AC-3 plug-in. Like I said before it works great within DVD-Lab. I would have expected to see some sign of it within TMPGEnc Plus. I guess I expected wrong

I downloaded virtualdubmod as you suggested. When I loaded the problem file I got this message:

It mentions a skew of audio with the video. I assume this means the audio is not exactly synced with the video. I find this annoying so I would rather not have to deal with it, I would try the other method they mention another method, but do not understand where to begin. Could you point me in the right direction?

I would say I am a novice. at all this. I have always worried about working with elementary stream due to this audio-video sync concerns. Seems no problem for you guys.

What trick is there to handling the audio processing and video processing and not getting in to sync issues?
