DV camcorders always record audio as either 16bit 2ch or 12bit 4 channel. The DV stream can be either type 1 or type 2 (embedded audio or separate audio).

I can't explain why you get audio on one part of the tape and not the other. Im assuming you can hear audio at the camcorder.

i do get sound out of the camcorder and i might have changed the sound being recorded from 16 bit to 12 bit as i dont have a clue as to what i should use. i have noticed that when capturing with windv i get around 1536 kbps when i here sound and its only 1024 kbps when i dont here the sound.

i just checked and both streams are 16 bit pcm audio .

  4. This has happened to me in the past also using WinDV. Try making sure you start play on your camera and then start recording the file as oppsed to just pressing the capture button and letting WinDV start the tape. That seemed to help with me. I started using Ulead Video Studio, which is my editing app to capture.

Try making sure you start *play* on your camera and then start recording the file as oppsed to just pressing the capture button and letting WinDV start the tape.

    have the hook box checked

and also wait till you hear the sound track on your camera before pressing the
    capture button on WinDV
