  1. Backed up a store-bought DVD to DVD-R and DVD-RW. Plays great in PC that burned them - will not play either -R or -W in Apex AD-600a. Called Apex - they said it won't play DVD-R or -W (despite what it says on the VCDHelp.com DVD player list). They said the AD-1500 would play them, but "unofficially".

Question is - has anyone successfully played a backup DVD-R or -W on an AD-600a or the AD-1500?

read the comments...it seems that you have to update the firmware to be able play them.

  3. I've read the comments and nothing I've read mentions DVD-R/W support. All comments appear to relate to Region Free or Macrovision. Similarly, the dvd-wizards/darrenk page also relates to Region Free and Macrovision. A few notes about CDR support - but nothing specific to DVD-R/W. If anyone knows exactly where these DVD-R/W comments are, please point them out a little more specifically.

So I ask again, has anyone backed up a store-bought DVD to DVD-R or DVD-RW and successfully played it in an Apex AD-600a (or Apex AD-1500)?

  5. Ah. My bad. Was reading the Hacks section - not Comments. I'll read through those. Thanks.

  6. Well - popped the case and saw the drive was firmware version LI12. I upgraded it to LI18 (from the dvd-wizards page) and it still won't play my DVD-R/W. At least now it loads the -R. I get the counter, but it won't play. Just sits there. PBC on or off - doesn't matter. Can't ffwd, skip, nothing. LCD displays Chapter 1 - but nothing happens. Still won't even load the -W. Still plays CD-R VCDs fine (whew!).

Wonder if it's because of the media? My DVD-R is an Apple DVD-R and the -W was a Pioneer. Burned both with Nero v5.5.6.4 in DVD(ISO) mode. A little help????

  7. Tried again - this time with firmware LI17. Same deal. DVD-R loads, but doesn't play. DVD-RW doesn't even load.
