how do you make these types of files? i've had my dvd burner for a month now and i can't burn a dvd because i have not been able to find any help on how to make these files that i need for the ts folder thing. i searched here and i didn't find anything that helped, so sorry if it's here and i missed it.
i have .avi's on my computer that i want to burn onto a dvd, but every time i try to it says i can't because i don't have the IFO, BUP, or VOB files.
right now i have NTI CD & DVD Maker 7, and i got DVD Shrink, and also getting Nero Burning ROM but still nothing that says how to make these files so i can burn a dvd.
any and all help will be greatly appreciated, and sorry if this is posted in the wrong place or if this has been answered elsewhere and i've missed it.

You need to encode your avi files to MPEG 2 before you can author.
TMPGEnc Plus for encoding
TDA for authoring. TDA will make the additional files for you.
Good luck! -
Converting a video file into the vob, bup and ifo files to create a DVD file structure is called Authoring. To create these files you need to input your video files into an Authoring software. Search in Tools on the left and see what you can find. TDA is recommended by many.

A normal DVD does need the VOB, etc files; which are MPEG2 and menus, etc, in a specific format. A quick way to make these is with DivxtoDVD, an older version is free.
However some players can play AVI files directly, as you do on a PC.
To test this, burn a DATA disc and add some AVI files (if you select "video disc" your burning app will complain as you mentioned). While you're at it, add some MP3s and JPEGS if you have them handy, players can often handle those as well.
Very useful to have a DVDRW or two on hand for testing things like this. -
ok, so i tried burning a dvd with my converted-to-mpeg avi's after putting them through SimpleDVD. it played for about a minute on my dvd player then the picture froze. i stopped and tried it again and the screen was black and the audio was choppy. do i need higher quality avi's? the ones i have are pretty old, got them about 5 or 6 years ago then burned them to a data cd, then transfered those files onto my new computer to burn on a dvd... so should i get higher quality avi's or do i need another program again?
again, sorry if this should be put somewhere else, etc. i've checked through the forums and from what i found, it was all about backing up existing dvds, not just creating one like, from scratch type of thing. -
Congratulations, it sounds like you're on the right path. Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to your problem....
Here are some things to think about:
Every authoring program has it's bugs. So you might want to try another program.
Do your files play on your computer? Does your DVD work in another player or on your computer? If so, the problem may be your player. (There is no player that is 100% compatible with all recordable discs. Furthermore, there is no disc that is 100% compatible with all players.)
Always use quality media marked, "Made in Japan." Taiyo Yuden is my personal favorite. Verbatim is also good, however some Verbatim discs are made in Taiwan (not as good). -
You may want to take it up another notch .
Before you get started ... download gspot ... it will indicate if you have the decoder's installed for the playback of those avi's .
Super , encode to mpeg2 with ac3 audio (if super dose not do well , then you'll need to dig about) .
Use batdemux from dvdauthorgui's website to demux the elementary streams from the mpegs
Use muxman , or ifoedit to generate dvd structured files (ifoedit has some quirks you need to be aware of)
Or dvdauthorgui to create the title from those elementary streams ... add a menu .
Burn with imgtools .
Rules :
Dvd-r only (compatability)
4x burn max (better fixation of data to media)
4.3gig max capacity filled (some players have issue's reading at the very end of media still)
As for media ... I suggest verbatim's with the printable side on them as this provide's more protection to the side containing the data over the long term .
