  1. Hey,
I have a ATI AIW Radeon 32DDR. When I go to the ATI site and see look for the latest software and drivers recommended for my card, it says I need MMC 7.2. I want to get 7.5 so I can use Stinky's new Reg Tool. Will MMC 7.5 work for me or is it just a 8500 thing?

    Thanks,
    TheNob

  2. I suggest you check the date of what they recommand and the date of the newer MMC, and see if the recommandation is before or after, they may have not updated it yet.

  3. Sefy that is good advice - problem is no one has a definitve answer on MMC 7.5 yet -- I don't even know where the copy I'm running came from.

ATI has no official word on MMC 7.5 - but it's out there and works just fine.

MMC 7.5 is much better than 7.1/7.2 ... I have received mail for people using it with the TV Wonder and all version of the AIW. You will capture better (less frames dropped) and it's much more flexible.

I would say try it only if you have a good copy of 7.1 as a backup just in case it doesn't work.

I installed it right on top of my 7.1 install (that preserved my Guide+) ... I suggest you do that if you want to keep your Guide+

  5. Stinky, if ATI didn't officialy distribute the MMC 7.5 there might still be bugs in it, of course my ATI dislike is mostly their drivers, so even if they do officialy release it, it's propably still buggy

I suggest each person who wants to try, make a GHOST image of his system before trying to play around with ATI software, just for safe keeping

  7. MMC 7.5 is actually an "official" release. It's just that ATI is trying to limit its distribution to their current AIW card. The MMC 7.5 CD rom is included in the new AIW boxes.

The MMC 7.5 version that is floating around is from the new ATI AIW cards and the included software bundle. Many people have had luck with it in older versions of the AIW cards. I'm guessing ATI is attempting to limit its distribution in an effort to sell more hardware.

Bugs? Probably. Especially with older versions of the AIW. But it seems to work great for many.

You can install Guide+ separately. Just go to the --->install--->Gemstar folder then select setup. I saw this on one of the newsgroups...
So far MMC 7.5 works quite well. I'll be capping some tv soon. Thanks!

  9. OK, here's the deal. I installed 7.5 over top of 7.2 last night. Everthing looked great, except for what I really wanted to do. Capture directly to VCD. I did the Stinky REG thing too. What's happening is: when I capture directly to VCD I get pixelated scenes when the video does transitions. I tried lots of diferent sources from DVDs to VHSs. I didn't see this in 7.2. I have supplied two links. The first is a sample of a little pixelation after a transition (top of picture is pixelated). The second is after it clears up. Anybody have an idea?

    Thanks

  10. @TheNob: did you make sure your CPU Load was set to 100% and your Motion Estimation settings were at their highest?

low CPU Load setting will cause a lot of what I see in your jpg's

  11. Stinky,
Thanks for the reply. I know I set the Motion Estimation to 100%, but I don't recall setting the CPU load. Where is that?

Thanks for the help. I really don't want to go back to 7.2 now that I've seen 7.5 Like I said, everything else worked like a charm. Even capturing to the preset DVD format.

  12. Actually sorry the CPU Load is what it's called in the registry - that is your 'Motion Estimation' slider

you also have to set the vertical and horizontal scanning to their highest - I forget the values but I think it's vert - 128 and horiz - 256

the defaults of 25 and 25 are not good enough

check your profile via my tool - make sure your CPU Load is 1.00000 (100%) and your scanning is at it's highest

  13. What is your version of atidvcr.dll ?
    (under "program files\ati multimedia\main").

I think there are different versions of MMC 7.5, one of them that has lower quality than 7.1 at low bitrates.

  14. I will check my settings on the vertical and horizontal scanning tonight when I get home. I'll also give the version number of my atidvcr.dll a look.

    Thanks,
