well after messing aroung with different configurations of hardware/software, finally got avi2vcd to work, it took 2 days to convert 2GB+ AVI file to 1GB+ MPEG file.

1GB still over 80 mins limit to burn as VCD for viewing on DVD player.

    now what?

Thanks for the link. But I got the impression from others who dabble in VCD burning that there is a way to make it all fit on one CD. Sorry I was not clear.

Well, then you have to rencode. Have a look at the tool section, select a calculator (I recommend FitCD). Type the length of the movie in min and sec and the audio bitrate, it will give you the video bitrate, that you can use to fit all on one CD. Don't expect great quality @ less than 900kbps.
