    Hi all,

Sorry to ask such a newb question but could someone help me please ? Just recently bought a 2nd hand computer with Pinnacle Instacopy on it. I have tried to copy a dvd (not a rented/bought one I hasten to add, one that was "taped" from a televsion show onto a blank dvd). The length of the file is 1.89 gb and I am trying to put it onto a 4.7gb blank dvd. However, it won't burn onto the new blank dvd and gives me the message that there is not enough room on this media ? The Pinnacle came preloaded so there is no booklet to refer to and the help files are...well... basic to be polite. As you can see this is my first venture into this sort of thing so I would be very greatful if you could point out where the heck I'm going wrong.

    Thanks and regards

I don't know much about that program, but if you just want to back up a DVD, it would probably be easier to use a program like DVD Shrink. It will backup with no compression and it can use the newer ImgBurn program for burning. They are both freeware and work very well. A version of Shrink that uses ImgBurn automatically is here: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=63869

This would be easier than trying to figure out that program for such a simple operation. ImgBurn works well with about any DVD burner, so you wouldn't have to worry about the burning part either. For backing up newer DVDs with newer encryptions, add RipIt4Me and the combination will work with about any DVD.

    And welcome to our forums.

Thanks for the info. Installed DVD Shrink and ImageBurn but I keep getting an error message that the device is not ready and no medium is present. I have a blank DVD-R in the cd writer so where am I going wrong ?

  4. Sorry, but I have to ask...

Do you actually have a DVD burner in this computer or is it, as you said in your last post, a "cd writer"?

When you say 'CD writer', I assume you mean 'DVD writer' instead? It may be your DVD writer doesn't like your DVD media. When you open ImgBurn, what does it call the DVD writer? It should be the top line on the right. You can also click on 'Tools>Search for SCSI/ATAPI devices' in the program to see if it can locate the writer.

Oh, I see. As you can see I haven't had this computer long and I just naturally assumed it was cd/dvd writer as it had the software installed... (blushing...) Top line of imgburn says "SONY CD-RW CRX225E QYB2 (ATA)", I take it that means cd writer only. If so I am sorry to have wasted your time

No problem. With the current low price of DVD burners, you should be able to replace it easily enough.

Get along to www.svp.co.uk a Pioneer 111D DVD burner is only just over 20 quid. To fit, you just do a straight swap for the existing CD burner.
