Hello all,
I was curious as to anyone that is running a video card with TV-Out if they could give me some recommendations. I do not really play games too often, for I am more concerned with the quality of the tv-out. Right now I have a Ati All-In-Wonder Pro 8 MB (about 3 years old) and I am looking for something better if it will even make a difference. I run it into a JVC 27-inch with Component/S-video/Compoisite options. Thanks.

I've got a Geforce 2 MX with tv-out. Works great. For TV, it really won't matter what it is. For dual monitors, Matrox is the best.

I'll second that emotion! for Dual Monitors and TV Output (he may have not said it, but I will) Matrox is defenetly the best! for several reasons no other card can beat (yet!) and that is you can select diffrent resolutions and refresh rates for each monitor/TV connected to the card, and the best of the best in display quality on the TV.

Ok thanks for the input guys. Here is what I have tried so far. I am upgrading from an Ati All-in-Wonder Pro 8M AGP. I tested an Elsa Geforce2 64M, a Leadtek Winfast Geforce2 64M, an Ati Radeon VE 32M and a seperate video box for TV out (AverKey iMirco). My results were:
The AverKey was just as bad as my Ati All-in-wonder Pro that I initally had. The Geforce cards were nice but for some reason with both of them I could not get it to fill up the full tv and I didn't see anything to overscan or stretch the tv-out part. The Ati was excellent and the cheapest ($99). It has great software and the picture was pretty much the same as the geforce cards. There is a huge difference when running these through S-video and composite as well. I would have tried a Matrox G400 but they didn't have any. When you say the Matrox's are the best...have you run side by side tests on these? Approx. what is the price on them?
Also I am only running 1 monitor and 1 TV.
I have seperate control for resolution and refresh rate (which you will never really change from 60hz when running in the united states on a television). The Geforce cards also has seperate controls for the TV-out and the normal monitor.
Thanks again guys/gals for the info. I am almost at my decision. Between this Ati Radeon VE and a Matrox.

As you have emailed me directly, I will simply copy my email answer here:
In Quality and Features ragarding the TV, the Matrox G400 DualHead will give you the best output from any other card, as a PC Technician I have tested many of those TV cards, especialy the ATI ones, since they are cheap we use them as regular Display Cards at work, they are basicly no good for games, and their drivers and support is one of the worst, but the ATI is good for a basic usage, as for the Matrox, we have a couple of those at work, they are in a computer that is being connected to a projector and another to a Dual PC Monitors, and the quality is the sharpest ever.
But do NOT buy the Matrox if you plan on being a gamer, as it's 3D performance is NOT good! and since the card is extremly old (in computer years!) the support for it is not guarnteed either

Thanks again everyone for the advice. I chose the Ati Radeon VE. This card seemd to have a great picture on the TV out (DivX looked very close to dvd quality when encoded to fit on 1 700M cd). The software gives you full control on what is on the screen as compared to what is on the monitor. So FYI to anyone, this was my final choice. Thanks again.
