if you're in the u.s. , there is not much choice, epsons are the only printer you can buy because of patent rights or something along that line

I love my Canon Pixma IP5000 for printing straight to disc. Never had any issues at all.

I just noticed this morning in our Toronto Star there was an ad for Canon cameras and printers. The printers are new and they indicate that they can print on CD's and DVD's.

Not sure if you are looking for consumer or pro, but this place has a wide range of low to high-end printers

  6. Canon Pixma line is good and cost efficient to own. I used
both Espon R200 and Canon ID6000. But I donated Espon
after used its original ink set. Now I am only using Canon
printer. If you are in US, most Canon printers you bought
here need some "work" before you can use it for disk
    printing.

  7. Oh, I heard newer Canon printers start to use "smart chip"
on the ink. I am not sure if it is ture or not.

I've read a few comments like that in these forums - I think (though not sure) the chipped ink cartridges are in the IP?200 range of printers...

Epson just released a new printer that supercedes the R220. Its model number is R260. It is supposed to be newer, faster, better but I don't have any hands on experience with it. It is described on this page of Epson's web site.

I heard an advertisement on the radio in Toronto regarding Canon printers and printing on DVD's and CD's.
Has Canon licensed the Epson patent or has the patent run out?
On another part to this thread I have an Epson R220 (in fact I have 2 of them) and they are slightly faster that the R200. But it appears to mostly be in calibrating for the Disc when the carrier is inserted.

I use the Casio CD-Title printer. That thing is GREAT! Prints text only in 1 color, but it does it quite well and neat looking.

WAAAAY better than using a messy sharpie marker to label discs.

My only gripe with it, is that it needlessly wastes some of the printing-ribbon. Could've gotten quite a few more prints out of each ribbon than usual, if they've just tuned the software better.

I am in Canada. Would our Cannon Printers have this 'chipped' ink as well? Can someone clarify what this 'chipped' ink means? Can I use a Cannon printer bought in Canada to print CD labels that I scan from my scanner etc.? Tried searching forums but I get mostly reference to US related material on how Cannon printers need 'work' to print CD/DVDs. I am looking at buying Cannon PIXMA iP6700D.

How much are you looking to spend? Primera makes some great printers that will print multiple discs at once. Microboards also makes a great printer called the Printfactory. I guess it just depends on how much you will be printing and how much you want to spend.
