  2. Sounds like the disc may have a defect.

Use DVDFab Decrypter to rip the DVD Video contents to your hard drive first and then load the VIDEO_TS into DVDShrink.

  3. http://www.softwarepatch.com/tips/cyclic-redundancy.html

is the I suppose complete story.

In short either your disc or drive are faulty, usually the disc and cleaning it with rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol oftens improves things.

DVD fab decrypter seems to be able to get past a lot of this stuff, but clean the disc and use a cleaning disc in your drive first, as I am sure when software gets "past" errors when the disc is played there is probbaly some image deficiency.

    hi laspis59 & victoriabears,

    thanks for your reply....

could it be the specific file itself that's causing the problem?... i tried using windows explorer to copy that specific file and still encountered the error...

    would DVDFab Decrypter resolve this?

also, would using an ISO image bypass this? if so, can teach me how to copy to ISO and subsequently burn it ?

thanks once again for the help...

  5. If there is a defect eg scratch, fingerprint ect.. on the disc, then the file in that area of the disc certainly will be affected, but other files on the disc that are not in the affected area will rip fine.
DVDFab Decrypter is supposed to be good at ripping bad discs, much better than DVDShrink.

Ripping to ISO wont fix the problem because your drive is still having to read over the bad part.

If you would like to rip to ISO then DVD Decrypter is the tool for you and you can set it to re-read over bad parts with software and hardware retries,or just ignore read errors.

DVD Decrypter can burn ISO's aswell but the developer LIGHTNING_UK has been busy developing a newer ISO burning tool which is much improved. IMGBurn

Look at your DVD first to see if there is any dust or other marks. If so try wiping with a soft cloth.Wipe it from the inner ring of the disc to the outer edge.Dont do it in a circular motion. This could fix your problem.

If all else fails,if you have another drive then try ripping in that one. Some drives have better DVD Error Correction than others, meaning they are better at ripping damaged discs.

Once upon a time this type of error was almost always dirt or scratches, however Shrink was always an ordinary ripper, and times have changed. Shrink (and sometimes DVD Decrypter) will now alos produce this error on some ArCoSS protected discs. DVD Fab Decrypter or RipIt4Me should not have this problem, if the issue is ArCoSS.
