The only one-click tool I would recommend would be ConvertXtoDVD. It handles most formats, uses pulldown to convert 23.976 NTSC source material, and generally works.
The best results comes from learning the manual steps and taking a little extra time. However that isn't for everybody.Read my blog here.

thanks,
are there any other free/trial versions out there that allow me to copys the full file w/o watermarks?
This is as far as I can see, the only time I'll ever need to burn a dvd from an AVI and I honestly don't really want to pay $30 to do it. -
DivxtoDVD is the freeware version of ConvertXtoDVD. Not as smart, but no watermarks. Otherwise you could look at AVI2DVD.
