  1. I am attempting to convert from VOB to iPod h.264.

I have NOT checked Decode with Quicktime.

Is this why I am currently at 225% and rising?

Also: through a couple re-installs, I am unable to get "Preview" to work.

Is there a faster configuration that I should be using?
With "Decode with Quicktime" I was getting roughly 1% every three minutes, and thought that that was (perhaps) too slow. If that is the standard, then I'll stick with it.

I am still unclear on whether I need to have Decode with QT checked. I have Pro, but not the MPEG-2 component.

    Thanks in advance.

The duration of your clip is used for progress percentage indicator. If this duration is read wrongly (e.g. because of a timecode break), then the percetage can go way off, while encoding perfectly. The developer has indicated that future versions will have better estimates.

There are two Preview buttons. The one on top is to play (video) while encoding, the one in Filters is to check settings (crop, subs, audio track).

If you do not have the MPEG-2 playback component installed, then the VOB cannot be decoded when Decode with QT is checked, as VOBs usually have MPEG-2 video.

  3. Thanks Case,

The Preview I was asking about is the "Preview WHile Encoding Button".

When clicked, I see that ffmpegx in Menubar changes to "mplayer" for a second then reverts. Since this wasn't woring I thought perhaps I had a bad extension or install.

I have been using MTR to get single VOB files (using Title Only Extr.) then I am trying to get to h.264.

Just to confirm: I will NOT check "Decode with Quicktime". ANything else in the options area?

VBR vs CBR? Sometimes ffmpegx seems to work faster than at others. I guess I need more RAM.

    Thanks again,

    Bill

The website manual says "If you use h264: don't change [...] the encoding options." I suppose this means that changing the options could break playback compatibility on the iPod.
