  1. Hi Friends,

I know the next question is pretty basic in nature, so do not laugh please.

I bought my first DVD Writer[LiteOn Light Scribe] yesterday only and never had any experience with authoring DVDs. So my questions are:

    1. What is the best burner software available for DVD authoring? I have NERO 6 which came with the DVD writer. The software should be Light Scribe enabled.

    2. I have couple of my original DVDs [legal] backed up as DivX files. Now I'm thinking of putiing them in DVDs as it will take much less physical space and will also be easy to keep track. So how exactly I should write those DivX files in a DVD so that I can also play those in future in a Stand Alone DVD player [DivX enabled]?

    Please help.

    Thank you.

Do you mean authoring or burning?

Very easy, just a standard data disc.

Check in the HOW TO - AUTHOR for guides. They will explain what to do and which software you can use.

Just use Nero to create a DVD Data disc and burn as many files that will fit.

    Without going to our 'GLOSSARY':

Authoring - The process of creating the DVD structure and format. To see the DVD structure and format, look to the upper left for 'WHAT IS' DVD.

Burning - The process of writing data to a disc. They are completely separate operations. Some software, such as Nero have both operations in one program.

For just burning, ImgBurn works well, Nero does OK. I don't think ImgBurn does LightScribe. For authoring Nero doesn't do well at all. There are quite a few authoring programs in 'Tools' to the left. TMPGEnc DVD Author is popular and fairly inexpensive.

If you are making DVD data discs for a Divx player, there is no authoring involved, you just burn them to the DVD disc as data, compatible with your player.

  7. consider an all in one program, like Ulead for about $30 they do everything and your learning curve will not be steep. They come free with some capture devices or cameras. Its an easy start .

  8. Hi INFRATOM,
    Thanks for your reply .
Well will it be judicious to spend on ULEAD when I already have the full version NERO6 bundled with my DVD writer? I also have full version Ashampoo Burning Studio, though I do not think that it supports DVD.
