Hi there guys, I'm new to the forum.
I have always made my recordings onto 2 disks and was just curious to know if there is a way to record onto just a single cd so that I can watch the whole movie in one go.![]()
Please help me out here.
Thanks in advance.

what is your source video?
what are you making? vcd, svcd, avi(divx, xvid)?
how many minutes per /cd do you want? -
Let's assume you are talking about creating a backup of your dual layer commercial DVDs. Here are the steps I do to create the best possible version with the least degradding of quality. These products are all freeware.
RipIt4Me (with DVDDcrypter) or DVDFab Decrypter to rip from DVD to harddrive
FixVTS to fix any problems created during ripping--ensures good DVD Compliance
VobBlanker to eliminate any part of the video I do not want, this eliminates data which will allow the next step to produce the highest possible quality
DVDShrink to shrink the movie to fit on the DVDR
Nero or ImbBurn 2 to burn the resulting video to DVDR (with bitset for DVD+R)
These steps produce the highest possible video while allowing all buttons to work, and keeping as much of the extras as you want.
This will also work with your own videos from a DL DVD.Some days it seems as if all I'm doing is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic -
If backing up a DVD
If you want to put a movie on a single CD then go here, it will cost you to join and you will have to learn about scripts and encoding..

Why dont you buy a DVD burner and some DVD media (both dirt cheap) download DVD shrink and a giude then go from there it will do for a start...Oscar. -
For VCD, it's very simple. VCD has a fixed bitrate, and bitrate is what determines the size of the file. VCD is 1150 kbit/sec MPEG-1. That means you can get about 80 minutes on a 700 MB CD. (See, I said it was simple.
) To get more you would have to abandon the VCD specification and lower the bitrate and it would look really bad. VCD resolution is not that great to start with.
If you want to put more on there, try a 90 minute CD. Or go to a different format like Xvid or Divx and you should be able to get better than VCD resolution with one CD that holds the entire movie. You just need a player that can play Divx or Xvids. There are getting to be quite a few of them on the market at present.
And welcome to our forums. -
First of all: Welcome!
2nd - I have a Divx player, but I've always wonder how can I make a backup of my videos and put them into a 700 mb CD.
Can you guys tell me how to do it?
Thanks.
P.S. Does this rewuire any program that I need to pay (i don't want to pay for some crappy program). Thanks. -
PTsniper: www.videohelp.com/dvdbackup and select dvd to avi/divx. But this topic is about vcd and not divx so if you have aby other questions please make a new topic instead.
