Maybe he wants to enjoy a little more anonymity in public along with that paycheck?

Given the math $250 million over 5 years would be a little under $1 million a week, yeah. I still think he's doing it to retire to a less stressful life here. I doubt he'll have to deal with anywhere near the attention he had everywhere else. In fact I think his wife will be easier to spot here.

he's wanting to try and promote soccer in the USA so I doubt it will be a less stressful quiet life for him . He will be in the spotlight even more now than he was while at Real Madrid. This guy (and his wife) thrive on publicity although they are not so keen on bad publicity

I don't know why they keep saying it's a 250 million dollar deal as if LA Galaxy are paying him the $250 million. Half of that is from sponsorship deals he already has ($25 million a year). He's also going to get another $10 a year from shirt sales although he'll have also been getting that from Real Madrid although probably less

So really he's getting $20 million a year from the club ($10 million salary and $10 million club profits) which works out at around $100 million over 5 years

    An annual salary of $10m

His existing sponsorship contracts with his four sponsors - Motorola, Pepsi, Gillette and Volkswagen - are estimated to be worth $25m

His merchandising shirt sales will bring in $10m

His share of the club profits: $10m

That adds up to $55m. Multiply it by five and you get $275m.
