You could have continued to answer on this topic instead of creating a new one.

Anyway, what's the audio codec of your file ? (look in the Information panel of VLC, advanced tab).

If there is no sound in Quicktime, iDVD will most likely be unable to convert the audio track when exporting to DVD, menaing that you will probably get no sound on the TV.

In VLC 0.8.5 (but it's more or less the same thing in previous versions)
When VLC is playing the movie file, go in the "Window" menu and choose "Informations"(or press command-i). You should get the information floating window. In this window, select the "advanced" tab. You should see at least two lines : "stream 0" and "stream 1".
Stream 0 gives information on the video track (codec, resolution, framerate...).
Stream 1 gives information on the audio track (codec, number of channels, sampling rate...). Tell us what you get there.

This is important to check because that will allow us to tell you if there is a third-party component (= plug-in) for Quicktime that enables audio playback/conversion for this file in Quicktime Player and all Quicktime based app (including iDVD). You can also only get sound on your TV if iDVD was able to recognize and export the audio track when creating your DVD.

In the case there is no Quicktime component for this type audio, you will probably have to do it the hard way :
    - extract and convert the audio track into WAVE (.wav) format with VLC ("Streaming/Exporting wizard" in the "file"menu of VLC)
    - encode the WAVE file into mp3 with any tool (iTunes for example)
    - extract the video track with D-vision
    - mux (=join) the new mp3 track and the video track in a new AVI file with D-Vision.
