Can you burn playable dual-layer video DVDs in OS X without using Toast, just Disk Utility? This is just for straightforward burns where you already have ready-made AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders, have stored them in an uncompressed 8GB disk image which is properly named (all caps, no spaces), and where your burner auto-bitsets +R to -ROM. Is there anything missing that you still need a program like Toast for?

Unless this has changed, my understanding is that Disk Utility cannot create a UDF format disc. You need to use DVD Imager to create that format before burning the resulting image file using Disk Utility. I don't know how DVD Imager works with dual-layer. http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
If you don't want Toast, you might consider buying Popcorn 2 for burning your DL discs.
