I choose "output" as D:blahblah.mpg and get an error message every time like "blahblah.mpg cannot be created".
I am clueless. Please help.

That's because TMPGEnc will not function as a CD-writer. You need to get specialized software for that.
You could always get a utility like Adaptect DirectCD which would allow you to treat the CD-RW as a normal drive, but even then, you wouldn't be able to play the CD in a standalone deck (which is, I think, why most of us would need to convert files anyways.)
I suggest getting Nero, it's simple, straightforward, and gets the job done.

Well, that explains it.
Is Nero available as freeware or do I have to shell out some dough?
I have Adaptec, but it contains no sub-menu for creating VCDs.
Do you think the "DATA" copier would do the trick?
Many thanks,
Adrian

You can download a trial version of NERO.

If you want more advanced menu creation you can try a 30 day trial of Ulead Movie Factory.
