  1. Hey All,

I've wondered this for a while.

Why do some DVDs not allow for fast forward and rewind (DVD player says "cannot perform that task at this time")??

Is it in the conversion process? or due to the original AVI?

Is there any way to tell this will be the case before converting?

If not, is there any way to add the ability back in once converted?

Or worst of all....is it just a matter of the DVD hardware you play the disc in?

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers

In SVCD2DVD, fast forward and rewind are disabled in the DEMO but should work fine in the FULL version. It is nothing to do with the source but to do with the way the DVD is authored. All DVD players (hardware and software) should behave the same way regarding FF/REW and as to whether you can do it or not.
    SVCD2DVD v2.5, AVI/MPEG/HDTV/AviSynth/h264->DVD, PAL->NTSC conversion.

    Thanks CB....

I have a full version (build from April....since posting this I upgraded to the latest test version).

The only things I ever change in the video encoding settings are:
-one pass to 2-pass depending on if I'm keeping the file or just watching quickly
-merge titlesets (on or off depending on the source files)

So any idea then why I would have some videos with FF/REW and some without (some DVDs have 1 titleset that does and one that does not FF/REW)??

    TIA

    Cheers

Ok. Well can you zip up and attach the IFO files of such a DVD? Also, can I just clarify that we are talking about fast forward/rewind and not chapter skipping?

Yep...just FF/REW and NOT chapter skipping.

Files attached, but I can't recall if the issue was on the 1st or 2nd titleset (may have been the 2nd).

    Thanks for any insight!!

IFOs look fine. No restrictions etc. Do you get the same issue when playing the DVD on the PC? What DVD player software do you use?

Nope they play just fine on the PC (or I should say they FF/REW just fine). I use Power DVD 5.

I've attached the IFO files from a DVD that I know does not FF/REW in my Panasonic DVD player. The movie was made from 2 AVIs (CD1 and CD2) and I merged the titlesets when authoring with SVCD2DVD (verion prior to the latest...from April release).

Thanks for any insight....and if I don't reply until next Monday/Tuesday it's because I'm going camping in an hour

    Cheers

Mmm - again nothing wrong with the IFOs. Maybe when you get back from your trip we can do some further tests (I have a Panasonic DVD player too!)

  10. I'm back

So what would ya like me to do?

FYI my DVD player is a Panasonic SA-HT720 5 disc player that is part of a home theatre system (5.1).

My settings (changed from default) are:
-usually 1 pass video, but sometimes 2 pass (issue happens in both cases
-usually don't merge title sets (TV episodes), but sometimes I merge (movies where source is in 2 or more AVIs) (issue happens in both cases)

That's about all I can recal changing from default, but it's been awhile

SSo let me know what to do or lookup and I'm on it!

    Cheers

  11. I just spotted something odd.....

I was playing onbe of the offending videos and pressed stop (which on my player pauses...2 stops fully stops). After pressing play I was then able to FF/REW with no problems!!

So it loks like my hardware is just interpreting things a little off??

    Anyways...more fuel for the fire

    Cheers
