i have avi files which i have converted to dvd successfully but my problem is some of them dont fit on my dvd discs i have both + and - dvd discs but they are only 1hour and 20 mins long but some of my dvd movies are over 1hour 30mins. is there a programme or sumfink that will squash the files down????

secondly can someone tel me of a good video splitter programme which i can download for free.???? at the moment im using boilsofts AVI MPEG RM WMV Splitter, but its freeware and only allows 2mins per clip for freeware.

i also have pinaccle studio 10 but it keeps crashing on me when i go to split the files.

    I don't know what a "sumfink" is - a math spy, perhaps ?

Anyway, you can easily fit two hours or more on a disc, if you use the correct bitrate. This is always preferable to making them too big, then using a transcoder to reduce the size afterwards.

You could start by telling us what software you have used to create your DVDs, and what process or guide you have followed. Details help us help you.

As for splitting files, depending on what type they are, Virtualdub can be as good as any for doing this.

Maybe Macrovision could have used Sumfink, "this copy protection is like a shield of steel".
He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect.

    I foresee two possibilities here:

    1. Hopefully they say 120 minutes (2 hours) - although it must be added that this is just marketing mumbo-jumbo and not factual or binding
    2. They're truly 1 hour 20 minutes (80 minutes) - meaning they're CDS
    If in doubt, Google it.

A video DVD (single layer) holds from up to 6-7 hours of video (VCD quality) to one hour (at max allowed bitrate/quality)
The trick with how to fit X minutes of video on a disc is to use a bitrate calculator.
