  1. Hi,

3 Month ago, I recorded a TV Show on a VHS Tape.

Now, I'd like to convert it to dvd. So I pluuged my VCR to my DVD recorder. No Problem all is fine except the audio with seems to be oversaturated (even when I watch the tape).
This only appears on one of my VCR.

    I explain more clearly here:

I have 2 VCR. An old (about 10 years old) Hitachi MX705E and a JVC HR-V510.

The Hitachi is a 2 heads VCR (Mono I think), the JVC is a 4 Heads Stereo VCR.

The tape was recorded in the Hitachi VCR. When I play the tape on this VCR the sound is perfeclty clear. When I play the same tape in the JVC the sound seems to be saturated or badly equalized.

I 'd like to capture the tape with the JVC VCR because the picture is much clearer and less noisy than with the Hitachi VCR.

I could try to capture the audio with one vcr and the video with the other one but it's a pain to try to resynchronise the sound and video

I've put a sample MP3 of each capture here:
    Hitachi: http://rapidshare.de/files/31043663/hitachi.mp3.html
    JVC: http://rapidshare.de/files/31043772/jvc.mp3.html

Other tapes I tried (home and commercials) plays fine.

Is there an easy way to fix that ?

Borrow a VCR from a friend or family to convert it , but that isn`t a long term answer to your problem , your heads probably are clean but their alignment means it plays back like you say . Getting your audio heads aligned I don`t think would be cheap or solve the issue on that particular tape .

  3. You think it could be the audio heads of the old VCR that are not correctly aligned or too old ?

I tried with an old VHS tape recorded on this old VCR and played in the new VCR and there is no problem.

Not so much "not correctly aligned" , more differently aligned . Only other things I can suggest -

    1. it might improve by fast-forwarding and rewinding in the new vcr , to put the tape into a slightly different position on the spools and on the heads when played back .
    2. If the tape is in a different position in the cassette case it`ll play at a different position across the heads - rewind the tape fully and put the tape into a cassette case that works fine and that you don`t need anymore .
    3. Ive had this problem as well with old mono tapes on my new vcr (but not as bad as yours) . My answer was to take the mono output from only one of the stereo output channels and use that but my vcr had the facility and outputs to do that .

(this is straw clutching time here - ie things to try that don`t cost anything or require a lot of work ) .

  5. Thanks. I will check in the user manual is there is no audio options. Maybe it will help.
